Community Support Specialist

Opportunities Unlimited is hiring part-time and full-time Community Support Specialists. Our human services agency provides one-on-one supports for adults with developmental disabilities. We provide supports around community inclusion, and activities of daily living. This includes organizing, cash handling/budgeting, grocery shopping, group outings, and camping/beach trips to name a few.

Flexibility in work schedule and hours. Minimum of 20 hours per week required. Initially, you will interview with potential customers to find a good match. Once you are placed with your customers, together you can create a work schedule that works for the both of you. You will need to be proactive, and reach out to customers to make appointments along with setting up meeting's dates/times. Your work hours might be in the community or in the customer's home (this is not an office job). Current available work locations are in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties. We are looking for someone to commit for at least a year. Being reliable, energetic, resourceful, adaptable, and proactive is imperative!

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be reliable, proactive & a self-starter with the ability to work independently!

  • Excellent verbal & organizational skills.

  • High school diploma (college background preferred).

  • CPR certificate (must have on first day working with customers).

  • Ability to pass a criminal history check & drug screening.

  • Reliable transportation with a clean driving record. Additionally, every driver is required to insure their vehicle to meet the OU minimum liability coverage, as well as providing a Declaration Page from your insurance carrier.

  • Computer savvy -- update and re-save Microsoft Word documents. Search Internet, scanning, printing, and sending email attachments.

  • Ability to write detailed progress notes of visits with customers and submit via email attachments.

  • Experience working with developmental disabilities, preferred, but not required.

 

Job Duties:

100% of the job is working directly with the customer either in their home or in their community. 

  • Call, email, and or text customers to secure meet-up dates and times on a regular basis.

  • Provide 1:1 supports to help customers obtain their pre-set goals. This could include learning how to cook, housekeeping, cash handling, making friendships, socializing, and getting into the community/seeking fun activities.

  • Provide training and support to customers in a positive, respectful, and consistent manner. Re-directing, safety skills, provide social cues, and increase independence are examples of some of the skills we work to teach.

  • Utilize your computer to input data into Microsoft Word documents to record visits.

  • Calculate numbers of hours, and miles for each month’s billing cycle.

  • Attend all required training's and meetings.

  • Ability to follow legal requirements of The State of Oregon/DHS.

Part time or full-time work schedule's, very flexible schedule, medical/dental and vision insurance for F/T staff,  sick leave offered up to 40 hours a year, Simple IRA offered after two years on the job, bonus incentives are included as well. 

Gas stipend when driving customers.

Pay is distributed on a monthly basis.

Hours approximately 20-40 per week, this may fluctuate depending on customers contracted hours.

 

Supported Employment Specialist

Opportunities Unlimited is now hiring supported employment specialists. Our human services agency provides one-on-one direct supports to adults with developmental disabilities. We provide supports around community inclusion, activities of daily living and supported employment. Experience working with developmental disabilities, preferred, but not required

You create your own work schedule! Once you are placed with your customers, together, you can create a work schedule that works for the both of you. You will need to be proactive and reach out to customers to make appointments to set-up meeting dates/times. Your work hours might be in the community, in the customer's home or at their job site. Current available work locations are in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington and Columbia Counties. Being reliable, energetic, resourceful, adaptable, a self-starter and proactive is imperative!


Job Duties:
75% of the job is working directly with the customer either in their home or in their community. 25% of the job is typing notes on approved DHS forms, then scanning the notes from your home several times a month.

• Call, email, and/or text customers and potential job sites to secure meet-up dates and times on a regular basis.


• Provide 1:1 supports to help customers obtain their pre-set goals: i.e. Discovering what type of job they would like to obtain, filling out and submitting resumes and applications, building relationships with community businesses in order to promote and encourage the hiring of our customers, helping customers with interview skills, drafting resumes and cover letters, helping the customer to learn all aspects of their new job, and all other information pertaining to developing and maintaining employment within their community.

• Provide training and support to customers in a positive, respectful, and consistent manner: Re-directing, safety skills, provide cues, and increase independence.

We assist customers in three different categories of Supported Employment, to include the following below:

 

Discovery

This is a 2 month project for each customer. We take our customer's out in the community to visit potential job sites, do job shadows/working job shadows, informational interviews and job observations. This allows the SES and customer to get a good idea as to what type of career would be a good match with the customers skill-set.

 

Job Developer and Job Coach

These are ongoing supports. Job Developers help our customers find employment in the community. The position requires a lot of relationship building with businesses in the community. Therefor it requires someone who is very detail oriented, resourceful, outgoing and personable! Job Coaching is helping the customer learn the skills required to be successful at their new job. With coaching, supports will eventually fade out once the customer becomes more independent.

*In order to become certified in each of the three categories, OU will put each staff member through state certified paid training. Each course is about 12 hours long.
